Experimenting with Paverpol

More experiments with Paverpol.

Of course, when I'm told 'this is how it works', I immediately take it as a challenge to see how else something can work.

Or to quote Thomas Edison "To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk."

I believe that holds true to creating also.  So going through my pile of junk I've found out how rice paper, floor mop heads, doilies and tissue paper all can be used with Paverpol - of course that doesn't mean that they should....

Each new material has it's own joy and challenge, but really the fun of creating is to experiment and see how far you can push a products abilities isn't it?

Now to find out just how hardy those mushrooms are.

With Fairy Season fast approaching, I am driven to experiment with a few different types of Fairies, wings, and any other accessories needed for good fairy life.  Then folks, be prepared as the Fairy Courses will soon follow.

It's been HOW MANY days

One busy week, finishing off already started projects, (finally) laying some old projects to final rest.  Trust me we're all better off with that one!  Then the old meeting a deadline and most importantly - wrapping, bending, dressing and preening.

Pictures are under wraps for a little bit longer.  Stay tuned for what's next.

Another day with Paverpol

While some artists seem fine and even thrive on people not liking or understanding their work, I'm not one.

My test is to begin to introduce new work to the world, first through friends, whom I know love me and will be kind (not lie, but let me know their feelings while trying to protect mine).  The next step is more the acquittance that will be polite, and then the world.

Well so far my Paverpol work has passed on all levels!  People are in awe of the creations that I have shared to date.

In fact I find that most people keep coming back to these pieces and commenting on details, picking them up, turning them around, asking question after question.

Wait! I tell them, give me a few more weeks to play and then I'll show you how it's done.

The usual conversations begins with "Oh, I'm not creative like you, I couldn't do that."

My response "Of course you can, I can teach you how to work with this product and can (almost) guarantee that you will be thrilled with your first attempt.  The sceptical looks tell me that many are not yet convinced.

Yes a new challenge - clean up the studio - get rid of that cumbersome table saw so that there is space for a table and then convince them to try.

Who wouldn't want their own Maggie May to show off!

Now to serious business - have a friend coming over tomorrow and for a tiny discount on her first class she will help me begin the studio re-reorganisation for ready access to my new Paverpol products.

Wish me luck!

Dream Space

I have long told people that my creative process included sending ideas to my "Dream Space" at night and see what develops.  Most giggle and nod.  I've never asked what that response means - mostly because what I tell them is the truth and I don't know how to explain it any better than that!

When creating my Paverpol figures, while building the wire skeleton, I am usually looking around my studio to decide if it will be standing, sitting, hanging or....

Even when I come to the studio with a plan in mind, I am always open to my work "talking to me" and leading me in a particular direction.

I love sitting with another artist or a group and noticing the moment when people start to talk to their work - Success!  I believe once your work reaches the point when it take on a personality of it's own, your creative vision will come to fruition.

Don't you love the excitement in your student when you see they have begun to realize that their work is going to turn out and better, be something they are proud to take away and show their family and friends.

Then I put that energy into my Dream Space and creativity grows exponentially.

I love it.

Week-ends that change your Life

I will be sharing my journey with Paverpol - a product that every artist should have in their studio.

Paverpol is a textile hardener that had earned the AP seal of approval from the arts and materials institution.  It is non-toxic, water based and environmentally friendly.  It stick to everything except plastic.  In other words it is amazing.

I was drawn to find out more about this magical product when I also heard it is water proof and weather resistant.  So, something that could be used to make outdoor statues, ones that even I can pick up and move.

Thanks to Benda Topley of Black Sheep Design Studio and her fantastic Teachers Workshop I have become a Certified Paverpol Instructor and look forward to sharing my Paverpol journey with you.
